Land of the Long Sun

Sunny Southern Alberta, is also known as "Land of the Long Sun". I found our shadows interesting and very long indeed! The day after this photo was taken, Jennifer spotted a rattlesnake near this very trail when she was out for her morning walk. Needless to say, we didn't go back!

This guy has his own way of shopping. Now with the garbage strike on in Vancouver and all the dumpsters locked, what will these binners do?

Ferry

BC Ferries welcomes you aboard! How many times have I heard that! This is the ferry between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay in Nanaimo.

Jack

Jack was posing for me up in the tree on the beach. Isn't he cute? He reminds me so much of Neil when he was little.

Peepin' Through The Porthole

I took this of Neil as he was looking out over the ocean on the car deck of the ferry. It was a beautiful day and the sea breeze felt so wonderful!

Waiting to Relax

This was taken just before the wedding while looking out over the estuary in Comox towards Goose Spit. I miss this view!

Donna and Crafties

Here is a picture of Donna with my "Crafties". The actual name of our group is the "Crafty Bitches", but quite frankly, none of us are bitchy! LOL....They are a good looking bunch aren't they? We all lived within a few steps of each other when we lived on the island, so they ladies watched Donna grow up from the time she was 9 to the young lady she is now.

Mr. Bojangles

This is another of the street musicians on Granville Island. He was singing Mr. Bojangles, which is a great song, but always makes me feel kind of sad.

Star Shell

I love all things pretaining to the ocean. These colours and the way this ceramic star lay on the blue sand, caught my eye.

Crow

This is kind of an odd picture, but I liked the idea of this crow sitting on this sculpture at Van Dusen. I fiddled with this a bit to make the crow stand out and the rest blurry. Not the best photo - but not the worst either

A hidden gem in a courtyard on Granville Island. I love how the water looks like it is dancing!

Carl Linnaeus

Carl Linnaeus is the Father of Taxonomy. Whatever the heck that is! Actually I know, but don't feel like explaining it here. Anyway - he was Swedish and kind of cute, so I had to take his picture. Donna snapped one of me kissing him on the cheek, but I haven't seen it yet.

Korean Pavillion

This is the roof of the Korean Pavillion at Van Dusen Gardens. I had not seen it on my previous visit, but the colours certainly are beautiful!

Is there a pot of gold?

This fountain is in the middle of the small lake at Van Dusen. I missed it last time I was there, but with Donna's expert direction, we found it this time. We just happened to catch the sun in the right spot to make a small little rainbow.

Waterfall

This waterfall is in Van Dusen Gardens, which we went to visit today. It was a beautiful day and very cool and relaxing sitting near the waterfall listening to the water splashing on the rocks.

Duck

I had to get pretty up close and personal to get this shot of the duck. Fortunately I didn't fall in the pond, which could have been a possibility!

Reaching Out

I have always liked these wooden sculptures at the airport, but have never taken a picture of them.

Gong

This is another photo from Spiritland at Van Dusen Gardens. I really loved the feel of peace and solitude of this particular display. The bamboo leaves rustling in the wind and the soft tinkle of a wind chime....

I Got My Eye On You

Believe it or not - this photo was taken at the airport. It caught my eye as I was standing waiting for my friend to arrive and I just had to snap it.

Pink Rose

Here I am again with my taking pictures of flowers obsession! I would have liked the center to be a little clearer but I think I need a tripod to hold the camera a little more still.

Bathtime

This display with the bathtub and the beautiful serene surroundings really appealed to me.

This is one of the beautiful teak wood statues in the Spiritland display at Van Dusen Gardens.

Lack of posts

I haven't had time to search around for some photos to post the last couple of days, but I am going to the botanical garden today, so hopefully I will get some good flower shots to display.

Red Caddy

I spotted this beautiful old red Caddy on the way to dinner last night. Donna wasn't impressed when I stopped to snap a photo. I wanted to show the whole car, but the background was too busy and didn't do it justice.

Harley

Testosterone filled the air surrounding this Harley! I didn't see the owner anywhere, but I would have liked to catch a glimpse of the driver!

Lunchtime Reading

This young lady was so absorbed in her book that she didn't notice I snapped her picture. I never know if I should ask permission before I take a photo, or just snap away. Is there some kind of photo protocol I am not aware of?

Native Artwork

This is the carved top of a cedar trunk that I found in a shop on Granville Island. After living in Port Hardy for 5 years, I really came to appreciate this type of art and the stories told by the aboriginal people.

An interesting view of the Granvill Street Bridge. Sometimes we forget to look up for photo ops!

Triumph

Saw this beautiful bike on the way to the chiropractor on Thursday and wanted to hop on and take a ride. Sadly - I have no idea how to ride a big bike, but it does look like fun! I haven't been on one since I was a young girl!

Child Sized Bench

This little bench is patiently waiting for some child to come and sit down. It is so colorful and inviting. I have never seen this before, and as it is situated right next to Starbucks, I find that rather surprising!

Caged Crane

I thought this was kind of fun taking the picture of the crane through the fence. I like that the fence is in focus and the crane is not.

Orchids

These orchids are from Queen Elizabeth Park in the conservatory. I took them last June, and decided to post them today as I didn't have time to look through my new photos.

Orange flowers

I have no idea what kind of flowers these are, but I think they are pretty. I was trying out some new settins on my camera. Donna gave me a book for Mother's Day, which is really helpful. Good thing my camy is digital, or I would have wasted a lot of film by now!

I love the detail on this old hinge and the weathered look of the door. This was taken across the street at Ryerson church. Where else?

Cat in the Window

Just as I was returning to our building the other day, I looked up, and this is what I saw peeking out the front window. Surprising, as I didn't thinkwe were allowed to have pets in this building.

Door Handle

This door handle is from the Ryerson United Church right near my apartment. I love this beautiful church. It really has a lot of character.

Greenhouse Gourmet

The other day when I was at the Happy Farm Market I noticed these tomato boxes stacked on top of one another. I had to snap a picture. The people at the market gave me a weird look as I was taking photographs of their fruit and vegetables!

Cascade of Turquoise

This turquoise, which is my favorite stone, was taken in the bead shop on Granville Island. I didn't have to stand on my head to take this shot - but almost!

With all the construction going on in the city right now, this is a very familiar site.

Kerrisdale's favorite clown. He makes balloon animals for all the little kids during Kerrisdale Days. After I took the photo he asked me if I caught his good side.

I should have actually posted this last week, but life got in the way of posting and I didn't get it up here. Anyway - I took this photo on the way to the last home game. I thought this was quite an ambitious project as the sign was huge - as you can see is spans 3 stories. Donna couldn't see it, so I took a photo for her. Maybe next year boys!

Donna and Neil

This was taken after the wedding we attended on Saturday. Doesn't Neil look handsome in his tux? Of course Donna is as beautiful as always!

Mercury

This is a great old car, that actually used to be a Vancouver City Police car. I love all the chrome and rounded edges. Pity they don't make cars like this any more!
